East China Normal University, abbreviated as ECNU, is a comprehensive research-oriented university located in Shanghai. It is sponsored by the state, supervised by the Ministry of Education, and jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal Government. In 1996, it was listed as a national key construction university in the "211 Project". In 2006, the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Municipal Government decided to jointly build East China Normal University, and the university entered the ranks of national "985 Project" universities. In 2017, the school entered the A-class category of national "world-class university" construction universities. At the same time, East China Normal University is an important partner of Confucius Institutes, and many teachers of Confucius Institutes are trained by East China Normal University.
